Why Summer Is the Perfect Time for an EMDR Intensive
By Sarah Hagen, LCSW
Summer has a different rhythm. School’s out, the calendar loosens, and — if you can carve out a few days — it becomes a rare window to do focused healing without the usual weekly juggle. Here’s why I love running intensives in the summer.
The schedule finally cooperates
During the year, adding a standing weekly appointment can feel impossible. Summer’s looser structure makes it easier to block the concentrated time an intensive needs — a few days instead of a weekly slot you have to defend against everything else.
You come back changed, not just rested
A vacation helps you cope. An intensive changes the thing you’re coping with. Imagine walking into fall having actually moved through the trauma or anxiety you’ve been carrying — not just having survived another season.
A restorative container
My Fairfax suite is built for this: comfortable, private, snacks included, paced to your nervous system. Out-of-state clients often travel in for a multi-day container (Virginia presence is required for sessions).
